HISTORY
1993
The Beginning
In 1993, Joachim Müller-Weichbrodt founded GEOTOOL in Herne, Germany. Initially, the company focused on the development and manufacture of dynamic cone penetration testing rigs for the DPL, DPM, and DPH testing methods.
With an innovative concept, GEOTOOL set new industry standards. Instead of mounting the rigs on manually movable frames with wheelbarrow wheels, they were built on crawler tracks. This design significantly improved transportation and transformed the rigs into fully mobile workstations. All required equipment was integrated directly into the machine, eliminating long transport distances and the need to carry equipment across the job site.
This innovation laid the foundation for GEOTOOL's modern, compact, and high-performance ground investigation equipment.
1994
In-House Production in Berlin
With the opening of its production facility in Berlin, GEOTOOL laid the foundation for future growth. For more than 26 years, machines were assembled, serviced, tested, and shipped to customers around the world from this location.
Operating its own manufacturing facility enabled GEOTOOL to continuously expand its production capacity while maintaining the highest quality standards. The Berlin production site and the years from 1994 to 2014 laid the foundation for GEOTOOL's global success today.
1995
Entry into the French Market
With the establishment of strategic distribution partnerships in France, GEOTOOL’s international success story began. From there, the company expanded into additional markets in Africa and around the world.
From an early stage, GEOTOOL relied on a strong international partner network to ensure close customer relationships and reliable service across the globe. The company recognized that ground investigation is needed everywhere.
In France in particular, the name “GEOTOOL” became synonymous with high-quality ground investigation equipment.
1996
Entry into the UK Market
The company's entry into the UK market further strengthened GEOTOOL's international presence. Over the following years, GEOTOOL established itself as a recognized manufacturer of geotechnical equipment and continued to expand its market share.
2006
Founding of Nordmeyer GEOTOOL
GEOTOOL and Nordmeyer, the renowned German manufacturer of water well drilling rigs, jointly founded Nordmeyer GEOTOOL, headquartered in Peine, Germany.
The new company assumed responsibility for the sales and distribution of both manufacturers' products, bringing their market activities together under one organization. The owners of both GEOTOOL and Nordmeyer each appointed a Managing Director to lead the jointly owned company.
2012
Nordmeyer GEOTOOL Becomes Independent
Following Nordmeyer’s rebranding as Nordmeyer SMAG, GEOTOOL acquired full ownership of the former joint sales organization, Nordmeyer GEOTOOL. The company subsequently became a wholly owned subsidiary of GEOTOOL.
From that point onward, Nordmeyer SMAG and Nordmeyer GEOTOOL continued to operate independently, each focusing on its respective core competencies.
2020
New Manufacturing Facility in Werneuchen
In the summer of 2020, the company relocated to its newly built manufacturing facility in Werneuchen, near Berlin. The former production site in Berlin was subsequently closed.
The modern facility provides significantly expanded manufacturing, warehouse, and service capacities, creating ideal conditions for continued growth and comprehensive customer support.
2022
Partnership with MASSENZA Begins
With MASSENZA, GEOTOOL gained one of Northern Italy’s most renowned drilling rig manufacturers as a strategic partner. As part of the partnership, selected GEOTOOL products are offered through MASSENZA’s global distribution network. At the same time, MASSENZA expanded its product portfolio to include compact geotechnical drilling and soil investigation rigs.
In return, GEOTOOL became the authorized distributor of MASSENZA’s high-quality drilling rigs in Germany, Austria, and the German-speaking regions of Switzerland. This partnership combines Italian drilling technology with German expertise in geotechnical engineering.
2023
Entry into the North American Market
With MOBILE DRILL, GEOTOOL gained a strong distribution partner for the North American market. The long-established company assumed responsibility for sales and distribution in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, further strengthening GEOTOOL’s presence across North America.
The close technical collaboration also led to the development of the modular B11 drilling rig, specifically designed for applications in confined spaces. The B11 is a testament to the innovative capabilities and successful partnership between the two companies.
2024
Entry into Pile Driving Technology
In 2024, GEOTOOL expanded its product portfolio with the development and manufacture of modern pile driving rigs. Driven by its collaboration with EPIROC and ATLAS COPCO, the company introduced high-performance machines for the installation of guardrails and the construction of foundations for solar energy systems.
The first machines were delivered by the end of 2024. Today, pile driving technology is an integral part of GEOTOOL's business and has developed into a key business segment.
2026
New Brand Identity
GEOTOOL brand—a name that has represented the company's engineering expertise and product innovation since its foundation.
At the same time, GEOTOOL has sharpened its product portfolio and is now focused on three strategic business areas:
